The Power of Perspective
A cultural program was organized by my school. My friends and I were seated and watching the performances. A dance performance by my sister’s class was going on. One of my friends remarked about how my sister was dancing. I was confused as my sister had told me that she was not participating in any dance and also did not go to school on days when only dance practice took place. I told my friend that the girl he pointed at was a random girl and not my sister and I was strongly sticking to my argument despite all of my friends claiming that the girl was my sister. Turns out that my sister did dance at her teacher’s request.
Now my terrible eyesight due to being a geek and having a ridiculously long screen time because of various reasons including this newsletter could be mostly blamed but that’s beside the point I want to make.
If I had known my sister was dancing, I would have identified the “random girl” to be my sister. But since I thought my sister was not dancing, I couldn’t even recognize her on stage.
This reminded me how we all can have very different views of the exact same thing due to our age, past experiences, mood, health conditions, friend group, and many more factors.
So there can be a million ways of looking at something. But only when we look at everything we encounter in a way that helps us to learn and get better at something, live happy and fulfilling lives and broaden our creativity.
For example:
1. Many successful entrepreneurs state that to run a successful business, you need to look at the world with a whole new perspective by seeing how people take money from each other by providing value and what value can you provide to people and what problems can you solve for them so that they will pay you in return because money is fundamentally something people exchange for value.
2. Content creators see everything as a source of content, like how I used an embarrassing incident of my life and some insights I have gained to write this whole newsletter.
So just know that if you don’t let external factors like your mood, other people’s thoughts, and personal convictions block your perspective with a different view that doesn’t let you live your best life.
Thank you all for reading!
See you next week with another insightful newsletter.
